One of the
most striking features of this contemporary Byzantine Catholic
Cathedral is its 40-foot diameter dome.
The dome's
interior was created by a unique process utilizing state-of-the-art
computer software to design the precast plaster panel system.
More than 100 precast plaster panels were assembled and suspended
from the steel superstructure to create the dome. Traditional
icon paintings were then applied to the dome's interior.
The Byzantine
stylized architecture of the Cathedral's exterior is highlighted
by the dome's majestic gold-painted metal standing seam roof.
In addition
to the 12,000 square-foot cathedral, the Byzantine Catholic Metropolitan
Archdiocese of Pittsburgh commissioned Mistick Construction to
build an adjacent 4,800 square-foor rectory.
