Mistick Construction
transformed this former school from the 1960’s into a contemporary
personal care home. The $1.2 million project gutted the existing
building and created a new 103-bed assisted living facility.
In coordination
with the project architect, Mistick staff determined during the
course of construction that keeping brick exterior walls fully
intact hindered window replacement and renovation of the facade.
Mistick therefore recommended removing the walls down to the building's
structural steel frame. The move allowed for improved placement
of windows and doors and provided a homogeneous perimeter skin.
This facilitated application of the Exterior Insulation Finish
System (E.I.F.S.) on the entire exterior to create a synthetic
stucco finish.
The client
received both an esthetically pleasing and costeffective project.
The rehabilitation was also well received by local residents.
"Oakleaf
Personal Care Home, nestled in a residential area, shows viable
use of a school property," says John Kudravy of J.A. Kudravy
and Associates, project architect. "Mistick Construction
once again delivered a quality rehabilitation to the owner and
the community."
