Mistick Construction
was selected to build the new Mt. Ararat Baptist Church in the
East Liberty section of Pittsburgh. The church is a true community
center, with a kitchen, gymnasium, and meeting rooms, along with
the architecturally striking 2,000 seat sanctuary.
The tight
urban site required careful excavation and shoring, and the large
open sanctuary necessitated long spans of structural steel, swung
in place by construction cranes parked on temporarily closed and
monitored city streets.
The church
building committee set a high goal for participation in the project
by minority business enterprise firms. Mistick Construction welcomed
the challenge, and established a model program that exceeded all
the set goals.
